Profile: Melanie Smith B.A.(Hons)

I worked in marketing for a large book retailer and was made redundant and decided to go back to my roots and do something where I could apply my creativity;  I gained a degree in Fine Art and I also worked as a stylist for a retail client working on film and photographic shoots and accessorised new stores.

I have always had a passion for gardening , nature and the outdoors, so to combine my two interests, I enrolled on a HNC Garden Design and Management in course at Birmingham’s Kings Heath Park (a satellite centre for Pershore College). I studied under the tuition of Chris Beardshaw, a 2006 and 2012 Gold Medal Winner at Chelsea who inspired me immensely. I have not looked back and consider myself to be extremely lucky to be able to have a career that satisfies  both my creative side and my passion for plants and gardening.
